How Often Do I Need Botox or Juvederm Treatment from my Cosmetic Dentist?

Nowadays, cosmetic dentists who receive additional special training are able to perform injections of both Juvederm® and Botox® to correct various cosmetic problems and conditions. From pain relief to a smoother face, patients are taking advantage of this “one-stop shopping.” Many of these treatments are one-time only, while others may need to be repeated.

Facts to keep in mind

Juvederm® is a gel dermal filler that may help smooth flaws on skin. Botox® helps relax nerves and muscles. Treatments of either may need to be repeated two or more times for full effect.

Reasons dentists provide cosmetic injections

Not everything a dentist does involves the teeth. Those with the appropriate certifications may opt to use Botox® and Juvederm ® injections in their treatment plans.

Muscle correction following orthodontics

A great amount of tooth alignment correction can be accomplished with braces. However, a certain degree of relapse can occur with improper muscle movement. Botox® injections can help with the retraining process and may reduce problems post treatment.

Wrinkles around the lips

Along with extensive dental work to make a healthier and more attractive smile, the dentist may perform a series of Juvederm® injections to fill lines and wrinkles along the lip line. This creates a more attractive frame for that beautiful smile.

Implants

New dental implants must be treated gently for a while until the nerves and gums settle down. Normal chewing, and tapping or grinding may irritate or even damage or loosen the implants. Botox® injections can relax the jaw, helping the implants to take hold.

Labial folds

The heavy lines that outline the sides of one’s mouth can sometimes be very deep and may give the appearance of more advanced age. A cosmetic dentist can help to smooth these folds. This treatment may need to be repeated two to three times at six-week intervals.

Tooth grinding or clenching

Consistent tooth grinding can be damaging to existing teeth. If other methods of arresting this behavior fail or if grinding takes place in one’s sleep, stronger measures may be required. Botox® injections may be given every six weeks to relax the jaw and help prevent subconscious clenching and grinding.

Gum supplementation

In the case of some gum recession, the roots of the teeth can become exposed, causing exposure to decay and tartar that in turn can cause even more recession. Botox® may be injected between the teeth at the gum line, increasing gum volume and visually improving the appearance.

Overly gummy smiles

Some people naturally have a greater amount of gums showing above the upper teeth. In cases where this condition is extreme, repeated injections can be given every few months inside the upper lip to prevent over-contracture so that the smile has a better balance.

Conclusion

It is becoming increasingly easier to find a cosmetic dentist who can perform both Juvederm® and Botox® injections as more and more dentists undergo the additional training needed to become qualified. This convenience means patients can get the treatments they need on the right schedules to maintain the desired appearance.
